I ate the chips in the car on the way back to the office from my illicit trip home to pick up clothes for today. I was going to eat something there but got caught up in cleaning up the exciting pee present the cats had left for Whitney and I in the bathroom.
We went out to Amelia’s Trattoria for Graham’s dinner birthday (the list of what we ordered is below). The food was… fine. The standout for me was the polenta. I could have eaten only that and been super satisfied. The flavors were well matched and I loved the cream of wheat texture. Graham was definitely not into the texture at all. Everything else was again just fine. Graham was super into the onions in my salad and enjoyed his risotto. The whoopie pie was not good at all. There wasn’t any flavor to the cream inside and the chocolate crackes, while a good texture, weren’t a nice smooth chocolate. When I think whoopie pie, I want something cakey and mildly chocolate. This desert was prentious with nothing to back it up. The panna cotta was good but needed more berries.
The service was great except that our waiter had put in the polenta first so that it came out before the salad and tomato tart, making our dinner a course longer than we needed it to be, having stuff to do after dinner. This meant we got desert to go. I think that handicapped them a bit, but I’m pretty sure I would have felt the same way about them regardless. It also meant I couldn’t get the chocolate terrine I wanted because it’s made ahead of time and served in a ceramic dish.
I felt too full and gross afterward. I think rich food is just not my thing.
