Lunch at Primanti’s. Eric, Graham and I met up with our guild mate Matt. He’s a cook there. When he texted Eric the name of the restaurant he left out the apostrophe, so we thought we were going to eat at Primantis. Clearly a delicious pan-Asian restaurant, despite the fact that we were in a region of Pennsylvania that would clearly not have Thai let alone amazing Thai.
It turned out that Primanti Bros. is a renowned sports bar with sandwiches so good famous people ship them to NY for lunch. They had a lot of delicious, if unhealthy, vegetarian options and Graham and I ate them all.
We ordered the BIG fried veggie platter: onion rings, fries, zucchini, mushrooms, and *swoon* amazing fried pickles. With a sort of ranch dressing, marinara sauce, and honey mustard dressing, that I asked for to adorn my salad, to dip them in. I think the salad I ordered was Greek without the feta. I rolled it up in the super soft, warm pita bread. We also ordered pirogi’s that I could only eat two of. We took them back to camp and heated them up for dinner the next night. Graham got their four cheese sandwich, which I didn’t taste. Mistake!
On the drive home we stopped at their other location, conveniently and surprisingly right on our path. Graham and I ordered the same thing we got on our first trip, but the sandwich was egg & cheese instead of four cheese, and we didn’t bother with the salad. I asked for the coleslaw on the side. This was a mistake. Tangy and fresh, nary a drop of mayonnaise to be found, coupled with the sliced tomato it provides just the right brightening counterpoint to the eggs, cheese, and fries. I ended up opening my half of the sandwich and shoveling it back on. I did the same when I inhaled Graham’s half after he passed it over to me, too full of fried vegetables to eat it himself.
